A valuable guide

Our ancestors had a saying ‘a healthy pear does not fall down the tree’. They knew that health is the most valuable wealth in the human life. That is why they tried to prevent diseases and disorders through various methods. Avicenna (known in the country as Lukman Hekim) devoted most of his life to making medicine for different diseases and left valuable information about protecting the human health in his works. To date, the multi-volume encyclopaedic work ‘Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan’ by our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov describes thousands of species of medicinal plants growing in our country and their benefits. This work is enough to strengthen the human body, to prevent diseases and to prolong life.

On the eve of the prestigious tournament

The national sambo team of Turkmenistan has recently held the training sessions at the World Sambo Academy in Kstovo, the Russian Federation. The team included 24 athletes. The event took place on March 10–24. After the training sessions, the national sambo team of Turkmenistan will compete in the Sambo Founders Cup to be held in Moscow. The prestigious tournament will become an important part of preparation for the 2025 World Sambo Championships to be held in the Turkmen capital.

We will work tirelessly to promote the content and importance of the state youth policy put forward in our beloved country under the wise leadership of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Moreover, a new generation of young people, who follow the example of our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and consider service to the Motherland to be the meaning of their lives, has been formed in Turkmenistan. The main goals and principles of the Turkmen youth are to study, learn, create and justify the trust for the great future of our Motherland and for the happiness of our people.

Tree means life and wealth

The tree-planting traditions are considered a sacred duty in Turkmenistan. Those traditions are cherished in the revival of the new epoch of the powerful state. The spring tree-planting campaign in the country is a worthy continuation of the ecological attitude that has become a noble tradition. At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on March 10, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the Decree on holding a nationwide tree-planting campaign in Turkmenistan. According to the document, to turn the country into a blossoming garden, to enhance the beauty of its nature and to implement the National Forestry Programme of Turkmenistan for 2021–2025, it is planned to plant 3 million seedlings of various trees and vines throughout the country this year. Of these, 1.5 million were planted during the spring planting campaign.

A poet of his people

The literary heritage of Magtymguly Pyragy has been studied in detail in the years of independence. Our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted, ‘Magtymguly induced his contemporaries and people to realize the source of a just society, a happy life, to understand the essence of what was happening. The great poet wished his people to live a peaceful and prosperous life, to be smart and educated, and to improve the culture. He left a treasury of wonderful poems full of wisdom and wonderful feelings for the nation’. In the revival of the new epoch of the powerful state, great importance is attached to the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birthday of the poet in 2024. Magtymguly wrote the poems full of wisdom and wonderful feelings for the Turkmen people. The value of the thinker's world of poetry has gone beyond the national boundaries and has become the treasure of humanity. The works by Magtymguly Pyragy give spiritual pleasure not only to the Turkmen people, but also to the whole world. At the same time, the poet's creativity reflects on the issues related to life. The thinker wanted to see his people and country free and flourishing.

Brothers have no equals

The Atabaev brothers, Maksat, Saparmyrat and Yusup, made up the top three in the Chess League of Turkmenistan. There was the heat of competition between three brothers in the League for 14 strongest chess players. Thus, Maksat Atabaev, a 29-year-old international grandmaster, who scored 2472 points in the FIDE rating, became the national champion. Although he was defeated by Shahruh Turaev in the first round, the champion won the title with 10.5 out of 13 possible points. Saparmyrat Atabaev, a 24-year-old international master (2448 points in the FIDE rating) scored 10 points at the tournament. Yusup Atabaev received the title of an international grandmaster a month ago and lost half a point to the winner. Eventually, additional coefficient demonstrated that Saparmyrat took the second place.

High speed sports

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Motor Sports Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, where he tested new sports vehicles. An international rally called ‘Silk Way 2023’ will be held along the Kazan – Moscow route on July 6–15, 2023.

A festive event

The closing ceremony of the 2022-2023 ice hockey season was held with great enthusiasm. As is known, the Ice Hockey Championship of Turkmenistan concluded on February 28. The closing ceremony took place at the Galkan Winter Sports Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan. The State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan, the Ice Hockey Federation of Turkmenistan and the Ashgabat Council of Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan organized the event.

The Turkmen swimmers won a number of medals at the Asian Open Schools Aquatic Championships in Bangkok (Thailand). Merdan Ataev, an international master of sports, won a gold medal in the 100-metre backstroke event with a time of 58.47.

The winner of the futsal tournament

A futsal tournament was held for the students of the institutions of higher education of the country within the frameworks of the XII Universiade ‘Turkmenistan – the Home of Health and Inspiration’. Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas hosted the decisive matches of the tournament. The team of this institution of higher education won the third place.

Strengthening the global cooperation

The opening of the UNESCO Chair ‘Cultural Heritage: from the past to the future’, established thanks to the cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at Magtymguly Turkmen State University, was a historic event. As is known, the creation of UNESCO Chairs in the institutions of higher education of the country will give the opportunity to promote the achievements of the Turkmen science and the national education system to the world. Similar chairs function in the world's most famous universities. It is gratifying that the institutions of higher education of Turkmenistan join this noble work, which was launched on the initiative of our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and successfully implemented by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The establishment of the Chair was conducted by the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO.
