The multi-volume encyclopaedic work ‘Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan’ by our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attracts the readers who are interested in the rich flora of the country and the ancient traditions of national medicine. Independence brings happiness

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan on September 24, on the eve of the 32nd anniversary of the independence of the Motherland. The agenda of the national forum, which has become a historic event in the life of our country, included the priority tasks of implementing fundamental transformations aimed at the dynamic development of Turkmenistan and ensuring a prosperous and happy life of our people. Our Hero-Arkadag noted that representatives of the state authorities, the deputies of the Mejlis, workers of the ministries, departments, political parties, and public organizations, the hyakims of Velayats, Etraps, and cities, members of the halk maslahaty of Velayats, Etraps and cities, the elders, ordinary people from all regions and others were invited at the meeting. Our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that independence is our destiny! Independence is the dream of our great poet and thinker Magtymguly, our strong country and happy life!

Clean sports ensure a bright future

In 2017, the Law of Turkmenistan on Combating Doping in Sports became the main guide for the physical culture and sports specialists. The law includes the World Anti-Doping Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency, the International Convention Against Doping in Sport (a multilateral UNESCO treaty), and other internationally recognized norms. The establishment of the National Anti-Doping Agency of Turkmenistan strengthened the combat against doping in sports.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a general lesson for young people at the Ruhyyet Palace in the city of Arkadag on the Day of Knowledge and Student Youth. At the general lesson about the history of our country and the responsibilities of the younger generations, our Hero-Arkadag noted, ‘Our future depends on the youth. Our youth should master the history, development, modern tendencies, important areas and founding principles of the state policy’. These words indicated the great faith in the youth and inspired young people.

The home of bliss

The festive celebrations of the Day of Knowledge and Student Youth were full of exciting moments for young people in Turkmenistan. A number of buildings of educational institutions were opened in all regions of the country on September 1. It should be noted that hundreds of young people were lucky to take part in the general lesson by our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which took place at the Ruhyyet Palace in the city of Arkadag. When people listened to the speech of our Hero-Arkadag at this lesson on the Watan news programme on the first day of the 2023/2024 academic year, they took great pride in the glorious history, and the present-day achievements of the sacred independence.

As is known, large-scale work is underway to modernize and develop the national transport infrastructure thanks to the concern of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in the revival of the new epoch of the powerful state. The roads, which connect our beautiful capital with Velayat centres, cities and towns, have become the decoration of our epoch. Installation of the state-of-the-art road lighting systems, modern street direction indicators, and construction of exits are aimed at safety of all road users and prevention of traffic accidents. The concern for the health and life of a person, who is the highest value of the society and the state in our Motherland, is a priority of the state policy. The month ‘Road Safety – Peace of Our Life’, which is traditionally organized in September at the initiative of our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is aimed at protecting the human health and ensuring a happy life in the country.

Impressive transformations are underway in the education system of Turkmenistan in the revival of the new epoch of the powerful state. Thus, excellent conditions are created for bringing the national education system to the world level, for the harmonious development of the younger generations, their knowledge and skills. According to the ‘Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State: the National Programme on Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2022–2052’, digital technologies, distance education and information exchange should be fully implemented in teaching, the professional level of education workers, curricula and programmes, manuals and textbooks should be improved.

Great honour to the national values

The amulets alaja have woven and knitted types. The name of the amulet indicates that the Turkmen women made it from different coloured yarns and threads and used them according to their types. It should be noted that the efforts of creative women have brought this ancient and enduring art to modern times. The Turkmen people have always cherished the national traditions, arts, and cultural values dating back to ancient times. Our people have passed them down from generation to generation. Handicrafts, created by the skilful Turkmen women and known since ancient times, have gained recognition of the world community. Another evidence of the great importance of this subtle art for world culture is the inclusion of the nomination ‘Turkmen art of embroidery’ on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. A number of the Turkmen carpets entered the Guinness World Records. To date, many of those national cultural values are preserved in museums. One of the most popular values, used in almost every household, is alaja.

An exemplary work

It should be noted that the efforts of our independent, permanently neutral country to ensure global peace and sustainable development, based on the humanitarian traditions of the Turkmen people, are greatly supported by the world community. The book ‘Ömrümiň manysynyň dowamaty’ by our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov includes very exciting memories of the meetings with the outstanding politicians who warmly supported the work of the Turkmen state in this area and contributed to the development of the country. In the chapter ‘Motherland – Mother's Soul’, the National Leader of the Turkmen people shared the thoughts about the lives of his beloved mother and father – Ogulabat eje and Malikguly aga. The Turkmen people have always cherished the principle of lovingly remembering a good person. Our Hero-Arkadag wrote, ‘My mother dedicated her meaningful life to her country, her family, and her children's upbringing. She represented a high example of patriotism, humanity, philanthropy, loyalty to family, and love for national values. Diligence and determination, kindness and hospitality, willingness to help others, loyalty to family values were distinctive features of her character. Her entire life was linked to the life of the people’.

Achievements of a young chess player

Yhlas Narimanov, a 6th-grader of the Turkmenabat secondary school 41, won a silver medal in the single event at the 2023 U12 World Schools Team Chess Championship, which concluded in Aktau on August 7. Yhlas played at the second board for the U12 team and showed a high level of play.

Preparing for the World Championship

According to the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan, the 2023 World Kurash Wrestling Championship will be held at the Martial Arts Complex of the Olympic Village on November 23–28. Following the document, an organizational group has been created and its composition has been approved to hold the World Championship. About 350 athletes from 60 countries are expected to take part in the Championship. The national kurash wrestling team of Turkmenistan, headed by Dortguly Tejenov and Shirin Kubayeva, has recently attended the training sessions in the Kyrgyz Republic. The team consisting of 30 athletes was again invited to the training sessions. The athletes started practicing on August 2. Skilful coaches will help wrestlers to conduct the training sessions at a high level.

Medals of the Turkmen weightlifters

The 2023 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships have recently been held in India. The members of the national team of Turkmenistan have been making achievements at the tournament since the first day. It should be noted that the Asian Championships gathered 260 weightlifters from 21 countries.Ogulshat Amanova won the first medal for the national team of Turkmenistan at the tournament. She competed in the junior 45-kilogramme weight class event and lifted 65 kilogrammes in snatch and 80 kilogrammes in clean and jerk. Our compatriot won three bronze medals with the result of 145 kilogrammes in total. Gurbandurdy Amanov, Ogulshat's father and coach, played a great role in this success. In India, he represented the national team of Turkmenistan as a coach. Perhat Bagtyyarov, a representative of the national team, became the vice-champion of Asia. He took part in the 61-kilogramme weight class event. Our compatriot lifted 256 kilogrammes (112 + 144) in total and won a silver medal of the Asian Championships. Not only did the talented Turkmen athlete win three silver medals (snatch, clean and jerk and total), he also earned a bronze medal in the youth event.
