Saxaul Wood at Lake Zengi-Baba

In the north of Turkmenistan, there is a kind of green-blue oasis among the desert steppes with channels and collectors connecting the lakes, around which separate ecosystems, “islands of life”, surrounded by coastal shrub vegetation, have formed. The total area of the water basin of one of the largest lakes in the country, Zengi-Baba, is 2,470 hectares, it was formed as a result of filling the depression at the north-western side of the hill of the same name with collector-drainage waters coming from the agricultural areas of the Dashoguz velayat. The maximum depth in the eastern part of the reservoir reaches 16 metres. On the northern side, the Kangakyr upland adjoins the reservoir with a chink steep descent. The southern and eastern banks are gently sloping, on their sandy areas xerophytic vegetation, black saxaul woods and wormwood communities with the participation of saltworts, grows. Besides, in some places, there is the tamarisk and camel thorn, and reeds are well developed closer to the water. Messenger of happiness — Nowruz!

Each of us has a special attitude to the ancient holiday of Nowruz, which lives in the memory of many peoples. However, for each of us this is the most favourite and joyous holiday since childhood. Its origin goes back to the pre-written period of human history and is related to people’s perception of the world. “Paradise” Horses – Our Wealth

Nearly every encyclopaedia says the Ahalteke breed is that of riding horses developed by folk selection in the territory of modern Turkmenistan, presumably about 2500–3500 years ago that has greatly influenced many other well-known horse breeds.

My beloved capital

From ancient times, the heart of any state has been its capital city. This year, the main city of our country – Ashgabat – turns 140 years old. At that time, it was the village of Askhabat with 800 yurts, located near a mountain river under the same name, whose crystal clear waters originated at the top of the Kopetdag Mountains. Askhabat emerged as a fortress on the western outskirts of the settlement Askhabat along the Gaudan Road leading to Persia. An Industrial Centre and City-Garden

Through the consistent efforts of the Turkmen leader, the capital city of Turkmenistan has become an example of the harmony of a modern city and environmental wellbeing. Ashgabat is successfully developing in the field of urban planning and is becoming famous worldwide as a centre of economic, cultural and international cooperation. However, the preservation of the environmental wellbeing of Ashgabat is an important component of the activities of government agencies, enterprises, institutions and public organisations. Parks and public gardens in the city grow; and forests surround the city like an emerald necklace. The unique history of Ashgabat began 140 years ago. However, there is convincing archaeological and written evidence that this place was the cradle of the Great Turkmen-Parthian state. The world famous capital of the state, Nisa, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. The city changed many times over its 140-year history. Since gaining independence, Ashgabat as a capital has grown into a large industrial and cultural centre. It has become a symbol of the city of happiness, wellbeing, prosperity and harmonious development. Ashgabat is now preparing to celebrate its 140th anniversary. The Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan approves the programme of celebrations and festive events.

Dialogue for development and cooperation

Our country persistently promotes the idea of joint development of models of political and economic cooperation in Central Asia and the Caspian region, proposing and supporting big projects with the participation of various states. In addition to well-known projects to optimise and expand pipeline routes, these are proposals in the field of energy, water use and co

In the history of modern Turkmenistan, the Economic Cooperation Organisation has played a very important role. On March 14, 1995, the 3rd summit of the ECO member states was held in Islamabad and the well-known Islamabad Declaration was adopted. In it, the participating countries welcomed the statement of Turkmenistan on the proclamation of neutrality and expressed their readiness to fully support Turkmenistan in that intention.
