The opening ceremony of the equestrian sports complex of military and law enforcement agencies in Ak Bugday etrap and the award ceremony of the Ýylyň Iň Owadan Ahalteke Bedewi International Contest and the contest among cultural workers took place to mark this significant date of the national calendar. The State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan conducted large-scale preparatory work jointly with the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan and the Asian Tennis Federation to hold this international tournament at the high organisational level.

«Türkmenistan Sport», № 2 (18), 2023 After the conclusion of the fifth day and 14th event at the IWF World Youth Championships in Durres, Turkmenistan is the second most medalled country in Albania, with a total of 10 awards, six of them gold. The Philippines are the actual leaders of the medal chart, with 12 podium presences (including seven victories). The latest success for the Asian nation came in the women’s 64kg, where Gulalek Kakamyradova got a bronze in the snatch, lifting 88kg. With three days to go, Turkmen officials hope that more top-3 finishes will come.

Strengthening beneficial cooperation

The Turkmenabat Open Women’s Volleyball Championships took place at the multipurpose sports complex in Turkmenabat, Lebap Velayat. The tournament was organised within the framework of the Joint Programme of the United Nations and the Government of Turkmenistan “Empowering and Engaging the Youth to Mitigate the Multi-Dimensional Threats of the Global Pandemic”. The representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan and the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan attended the Championships. The competitions between the women’s teams from Turkmenabat and Charjev, Danev, Sayat and Kerki etraps were held in a friendly atmosphere. The tournament, held within the framework of the Joint Programme, illustrated the concern of the President of Turkmenistan for improving the health of the people through promoting physical culture and sports in the country, eliminating bad habits and bringing up the younger generations to love sports and respect honest labour.

Path to Olympus

The 2nd Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games were held in Kuzbass, Kemerovo Oblast of the Russian Federation. This tournament offered an invaluable experience to our young athletes, who represent the future of the Turkmen national school of winter sports. The members of the Turkmenistan youth team performed in the Games and the events of the Path to Olympus education project. The Children of Asia International Committee and the Russian Olympic Committee developed the Path to Olympus education project. It is one of the projects of the sports festival which brought together children from different countries of the continent.

World’s first women’s motor race in New York

There are many rumours, disputes, myths and opinions about the concept of «a lady driving a car». However, despite the jokes, we resolutely declare there is nothing in female nature that would prevent a lady from getting behind the wheel and excelling at driving a car. …The first women’s motor race took place in the United States on January 11, 1909. The race went down in history as the first all-female race. More than a dozen cars took part in the rally. The participants started in New York and went to Philadelphia, then back to New York.
