Celebrations to Mark the Opening and Start of Construction of Energy, Transport, Communications and Logistics Infrastructure Facilities A new important chapter has been added to the chronicle of the traditionally friendly and good-neighbourly Turkmen-Afghan relations. National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Inspects the Progress of the Implementation of the Second Stage of the “Smart” City

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Honorary Elder Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working visit to the city of Arkadag, where he conducted a working meeting with the participation of relevant officials and acquainted himself with the projects of road and transport infrastructure facilities. Currently, the buildings, institutions and household facilities built there as part of the first stage are functioning properly. This is a vivid indication that at the state level, great importance is attached to the successful implementation of such tasks as the implementation of a large-scale urban development programme, the industrialisation of regions, the development of the national economy on an integrated basis and the ensuring a high environmental level.

New International Awards of the City of Arkadag

In order to participate in the World Smart City Expo on the basis of the relevant Order recently signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to meet in the Republic of Korea with manufacturers of medical equipment needed to form the medical cluster of the city of Arkadag and to acquaint themselves with specialised factories on the ground, members of the delegation of Turkmenistan these days paid a working visit to the city of Seoul, Republic of Korea. At the World Smart City Expo held simultaneously with the visit, the Turkmen delegation presented a pavilion devoted to the smart city of Arkadag, which as a result received three awards. In the World Smart City Expo, representatives of the provinces of the Republic of Korea, local and foreign companies and various foreign countries, including Turkmenistan, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, Malaysia, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Kingdom of Denmark, Finland and the State of Israel took part. The exhibition featured 116 pavilions with the participation of representatives at the level of ministers, deputy ministers and governors from more than 60 countries.

The Investment Forum of Turkmenistan, the International Conference on attracting high technologies and innovations to the economy of Turkmenistan “HI-TECH Turkmenistan 2024” and specialised exhibitions were held in the capital. The agenda of large-scale business events, jointly organised by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Economy and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, included issues related to the implementation of major projects in the country and the further development of international cooperation in this sphere. Among the foreign delegates were international experts, heads and representatives of leading companies specialising in the oil and gas, energy, construction, transport and communications sectors, authoritative organisations, financial institutions and research centres. The participants from the Turkmen party were heads and specialists of ministries, sectoral departments, banks and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

Festive Events Marking the Day of Knowledge and Student Youth

On September 1, the first bell rang at educational institutions throughout the country, announcing the beginning of the new 2024–2025 academic year. Following a good tradition, the festive events began with laying flowers at the Independence Monument and the monuments to Berdimuhamed Annayev at the Berdimuhamed Annayev pedagogical vocational school in Arkadag City and school 27 in the Yzgant village in Geoktepe etrap, Ahal velayat on that day.

Honours to the Holiness of the Mother

A ceremonial conference was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to mark the translation into Farsi of the book by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Worshipping Mother – Worshipping a Sacred Person. The event became vivid evidence of the great veneration of mothers in our country. The conference was attended by creative workers, masters of art, representatives of public organisations and diplomats. On September 4, winter wheat sowing began in the Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary velayats of the country. This important agricultural campaign began with the blessing of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Cooperation in this important area is one of the key vectors of the foreign-policy course of the neutral Motherland, initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and now being consistently implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Having officially adopted all 17 SDGs and adapted them to its national plans and socioeconomic strategies, Turkmenistan strives to fully promote the expansion of constructive international cooperation that meets the interests of universal wellbeing and progress. This is confirmed in the Priority Positions of our country at the forthcoming 79th session of the UN General Assembly, which will begin its work at the United Nations headquarters in New York in September this year.

Wisdom of ancient traditions

Along with frisky Ahalteke horses and fearless Alabay dogs, Turkmen one-humped camels, arvana, are an integral part of the rich cultural heritage of our people. In ancient times, camels not only were used to transport goods in the desert and steppe, but also became a symbol of the wealth of the Turkmen people. Camel owners tried to distinguish their animals from others by decorating them with bright carpets, carpet products and multi-coloured fabrics. Camel decorating is an art of the Turkmen people passed down from one generation to another. Craftswomen put their souls into carpet covers which were used to decorate the animal. Each element of the attire had its own symbolism and was associated with folk signs. Speaking about carpet art, it is appropriate to quote the wise saying of our ancestors, “Weaving a carpet is like digging a well with a needle”, since this art requires great diligence, patience, high skill and fine taste.
