Gender equality is ensured by Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. According to the UN, “Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.” Goal 5 can positively influence the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals in the country that has a gender-oriented policy. Ensuring gender equality and empowering all women and girls is a cross-cutting aspect of the state policy of Turkmenistan.

The knowledge economy and the fourth industrial revolution are the constants that will ensure sustainable development in the 21st century. In this regard, the quality and potential of human capital is of paramount importance. Human capital – labour and knowledge resources – is the major factor and engine of economic development. Accordingly, the main task of the state is to reveal and efficiently use human resources. Women and girls make up half of the world’s population. Therefore, they are half of the human potential to achieve sustainable development.
