The first SAMBO Center opened in Ethiopia

Significance of the national games

The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, ‘Turkmenistan recognizes childhood as an important stage in a person’s life and defines the preparation of the younger generations for a full-fledged life in our society, the development of creativeness, skills, high moral qualities, patriotism and civic consciousness as priority tasks’. Thus, the national heritage, including the national games, assumes a great role in the successful implementation of the abovementioned tasks. The ancestors of the Turkmen people taught their children to play the national games to ensure that they grew up physically and mentally healthy. These games instilled in children such qualities as composure, resourcefulness, adherence to rules, decency, and patience. These virtues are the most necessary features in life for every person. Our ancestors created a school of education and used it in the upbringing of the younger generations, the brave defenders of the Motherland for centuries. The national games of the Turkmen people are one of the main aspects of this school.

World Champion from the Garamazy Village

This year has been very successful for Turkmen athletes. As reported in the media, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov issued the Order authorising to present a new car – a white Toyota Camry V6 sedan, made in 2023, to a third-year student from the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan Shahzadbek Matyakubov, who had won a gold medal at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships, which was held in Leon, Spain. Our compatriot, a native of the Akdepe etrap, Dashoguz velayat, a representative of the sports dynasty Shahzadbek Matyakubov competed for the title of the strongest weightlifter in the under 102 kg weight category of the prestigious international tournament among juniors under 20 with 13 athletes from 11 countries. The Turkmen athlete won 3 gold medals in each event and set a world junior record in the clean and jerk.

Turkmen wrestlers win six medals at World Sambo Championships

«7/24.tm»: №48 (235) 25.11.2024 The Turkmen sambo wrestlers won six medals at the 49th World Sambo Championships, which was held in Astana. The tournament in Kazakhstan with the prize fund of $311,000 brought together 470 athletes from 80 countries, who competed for 31 sets of medals in the men’s and women’s sport and combat sambo tournaments. The Turkmen athletes brought home one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Turkmen Tennis Players — Winners of Ashgabat Open 2024 International Tennis Tournament

The closing ceremony of the Ashgabat Open 2024 International U14 Tennis Tournament, which had brought together tennis players from 12 countries of Europe and Asia, took place in the capital of Turkmenistan. Young men and women from the United Kingdom, India, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan were involved in the exciting fight in singles and doubles not only for medals of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF), under the auspices of which the tournament was held, but also for a higher position in the rating for six days at the Tennis Complex of the Olympic Village.

Ashgabat Open 2024 Starts in Turkmenistan

On November 11, the opening ceremony of the Ashgabat Open 2024 International Tennis Tournament among boys and girls under 14 years old from 12 countries of Europe and Asia took place in the capital of Turkmenistan. This event is another vivid evidence of the transformation of Ashgabat into a recognised international centre of sports, the wide support from the International Tennis Federation and the Asian Tennis Federation and the success of the targeted strategy for promoting physical activity and sports, which is a state policy priority of Turkmenistan, implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Hero-Arkadag. In the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State, Turkmenistan is developing the physical activity, health improvement and sports movement on an unprecedented scale. It has become a tradition to hold mass participation sport events, uniting thousands of people of all ages and professions. Particular attention is paid to promoting high-performance sports and training high-class athletes, coaches and other sports specialists. Turkmen athletes perform at major international tournaments on a regular basis and win prizes and medals, including gold ones. This year, Turkmen athletes have performed at 161 international tournaments and won a total of 538

Only Turkmen Players in the Final

At the ongoing Ashgabat Open 2024 International Tennis Tournament among juniors under 14, the semi-final matches in doubles competitions took place yesterday. In the girls’ competition, four teams were, in fact, Turkmen. Only Ashgabat athlete Sulgun Ishankulieva was assisted by Uzbek tennis player Safiya Sharipova. In the semi-final match, they played versus the pair of Aynur Annamyradova and Nyazli Hudaykuliyeva, who, in the course of a tough fight, longest so far in the tournament (the match lasted more than two hours), nevertheless lost with a score of 3-6 and 5-7.

Friendly Matches of the Magtymguly Pyragy Football Club

Arkadag FC Advances to AFC Challenge League Quarterfinals

Turkmen football club Arkadag advanced to the final stage of the 2024–2025 AFC Challenge League (Asian Football Confederation). Our team played the group stage games in the West Zone, which were held in Kuwait, and took the first place in Group B. They will continue competing for the main trophy of the tournament in the group stage games next spring. We should note that the current champion of the Turkmenistan Premier League, established last spring, is performing on the international sports arena for the first time and has gained such a significant achievement. Vladimir Bayramov’s squad won two group matches – vs Maziya from the Maldives (2-1) and Kyrgyz Abdysh-Ata (2-0) and lost the duel with the hosts of the tournament – Al-Arabi SC (2-3).

World SAMBO Championships to be held in Astana

The tournament will feature 31 sets of medals in Sport SAMBO among men and women, Combat SAMBO among men and women, and Blind SAMBO among men in the SVI-1 class (totally blind athletes). Student-athletes succeed at Jiu-Jitsu World Championships

Our athletes won 5 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze medals. The fact that the most medallists were students testifies that young people in our country have every opportunity to excel academically and display their talents in various sports. The students from the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports form the backbone of the national team in several sports. Along with them, the students from other institutions of higher education contribute to the medal count of the Turkmenistan team. The World Championships in Greece confirmed this once again.
