On November 11, the opening ceremony of the Ashgabat Open 2024 International Tennis Tournament among boys and girls under 14 years old from 12 countries of Europe and Asia took place in the capital of Turkmenistan. This event is another vivid evidence of the transformation of Ashgabat into a recognised international centre of sports, the wide support from the International Tennis Federation and the Asian Tennis Federation and the success of the targeted strategy for promoting physical activity and sports, which is a state policy priority of Turkmenistan, implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Hero-Arkadag.
In the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State, Turkmenistan is developing the physical activity, health improvement and sports movement on an unprecedented scale. It has become a tradition to hold mass participation sport events, uniting thousands of people of all ages and professions. Particular attention is paid to promoting high-performance sports and training high-class athletes, coaches and other sports specialists. Turkmen athletes perform at major international tournaments on a regular basis and win prizes and medals, including gold ones. This year, Turkmen athletes have performed at 161 international tournaments and won a total of 538 medals, including 174 gold, 150 silver and 214 bronze. All this vividly testifies to the continued rise in the international authority of our country as a sports power.
