The UN declared April 23 English Language Day. The main aim of establishing this event in 2010 is «to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization». The observation of English Language Day on this date is symbolical, as the great dramatist William Shakespeare was born and passed away on this day.
