Peacefulness, good neighbourliness and neutrality form the basis of the foreign policy, initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and successfully implemented by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan makes great efforts to promote the humanitarian principles and puts forward initiatives and proposals of common interest within the framework of international organizations.
The country conducts peace-building work to strengthen cultural dialogue, mutual respect and trust in the international relations.
