In 2017, the Law of Turkmenistan on Combating Doping in Sports became the main guide for the physical culture and sports specialists. The law includes the World Anti-Doping Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency, the International Convention Against Doping in Sport (a multilateral UNESCO treaty), and other internationally recognized norms.

The establishment of the National Anti-Doping Agency of Turkmenistan strengthened the combat against doping in sports.
