The opening ceremony of the XXXI World Summer Universiade took place in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in the south-west of the People’s Republic of China. The student team of Turkmenistan at the Games is represented by 16 athletes in such sports as athletics, wushu, judo and swimming. The sporting event will last until August 8.

By the way, the Universiade in Chengdu was supposed to be held in 2021, but was postponed for a year because of the pandemic. In 2022, the sporting event was again postponed for the same reason. In June 2022, the Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) announced new dates for the competition – from July 28 till August 8, 2023. Despite the fact that the Universiade is being held in 2023, it will retain its original name “Chengdu–2021”. As it was noted earlier in the FISU announcement, the age limits and qualifications of student athletes will be adapted so that all students who were eligible to participate in 2021 and 2022 can participate.
