The city of Arkadag is closely connected with the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat, which provides perfect conditions for its administration. The presence of executive power in the city of Arkadag demonstrates its significance. Cities of national importance are considered as separate administrative-territorial units. These cities are of particular importance in the socio-economic development of the country and regions.

According to the Law of Turkmenistan ‘On the City of Arkadag’ adopted on March 23, 2023, the city of Arkadag has the special legal status of ‘a city of national importance’. In this context, according to the Decree of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan ‘On the Creation of New Etraps in the City of Arkadag’ adopted on March 18, 2023, Karizek and Gorjav Etraps were established in the city of Arkadag. According to the Decree adopted on May 10, 2023, a residential complex in Karizek Etrap of the city of Arkadag entered into official status of a settlement. The settlement was named after skilful horse breeder Aba Annaev.
