Turkmen wrestlers win six medals at World Sambo Championships

«7/24.tm»: №48 (235) 25.11.2024 The Turkmen sambo wrestlers won six medals at the 49th World Sambo Championships, which was held in Astana. The tournament in Kazakhstan with the prize fund of $311,000 brought together 470 athletes from 80 countries, who competed for 31 sets of medals in the men’s and women’s sport and combat sambo tournaments. The Turkmen athletes brought home one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

World SAMBO Championships to be held in Astana

Our athletes won 5 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze medals. The students from the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports form the backbone of the national team in several sports. Valentina Zherdeva from Ashgabat celebrated her 101st birthday

At the age of 20, she was drafted into the army and participated in the Great Patriotic War, where she operated anti-aircraft batteries and received many awards for her service. After the war, she worked at enterprises in Ashgabat, became a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
