Turkmenistan is a full-fledged subject of the world community and adheres to the principles of permanent neutrality in foreign policy, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, refusal to use force and participate in military alliances and promotion of peaceful, friendly and mutually beneficial relations with the countries of the region and all states of the world. TURKMENISTAN-UNESCO: ENHANCING CULTURAL AND HUMANITARIAN TIES

As a result of the successful continuation of the noble endeavours initiated by Hero-Arkadag by Hero President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, special importance is attached to the consistent expansion of interaction with the organisations of the United Nations, including UNESCO. Our country has implemented the large scale joint projects and accumulated vast experience in cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres and in preserving historical heritage. The National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO conducts effective activities in this area. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was born on 16 November 1945. UNESCO has 195 Members and 8 Associate Members and is governed by the General Conference and the Executive Board. The Organization has more than 50 field offices around the world and its headquarters are located in Paris. Hero of Turkmenistan sets new record for total time spent in space

«7/24. tm» № 07 (194), 12.02.2024 Hero of Turkmenistan Oleg Kononenko set a new record for the total time spent in space. According to Roscosmos, Kononenko became the cosmonaut who spent the most time in space at 11 hours 30 minutes 8 seconds Moscow time on February 4. He overtook the record set by his compatriot Gennady Padalka, who accumulated a total of 878 days 11 hours 29 minutes 48 seconds across five trips.

Remarkable events of the year

Another glorious year of the revival of the new epoch of the powerful state, filled with historic transformations and great achievements, came to an end. In 2023, which was declared the year ‘Happy Youth with Arkadag Serdar’, the Turkmen people realized that their interests and international prestige of the country are the priorities of the state policy put forward by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Last year, the opening ceremonies of the first phase of the development of the city of Arkadag entered the history in the letters of gold. The project of the city reflects the principles ‘the state is for the people!’ by our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and ‘Motherland is Motherland only with the people! State is that only with the people!’ by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Happy young people

The book ‘Ýaşlar – Watanyň daýanjy’ by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov became a valuable gift for the Turkmen people. The literary work is dedicated to the youth and their future tasks. The young people from Turkmenistan take an active part in the international and national sports events, scientific and educational Olympiads, and win victories. This fact demonstrates that the state youth policy yields positive results. 2024 has been declared the year ‘Ocean of Wisdom of Magtymguly Pyragy’. The motto originates from the wonderful poem by our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and reflects the great respect of the Turkmen people for Magtymguly Pyragy. The Permanent Council of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) declared 2024 ‘the Year of the Great Poet and Thinker of the Turkic World – Magtymguly Pyragy’. The 300th anniversary of the birthday of Magtymguly Pyragy was included in the list of memorable dates in the celebration of UNESCO for 2024–2025. This fact demonstrates that the international community is focused on the life and poetry by Magtymguly Pyragy.

A city with glorious history

The decision to declare Anau the cultural capital of the Turkic world demonstrated respect for the national heritage of the Turkmen people. Anau is considered the home of white wheat. The city has attracted the attention of scientists since ancient times. A lot of information about this place has been preserved in medieval sources. In the 16th-19th centuries, the Anau oasis was noted in historical documents under the name ‘Bagabat’. This word means ‘may garden, house, and country be prosperous’. Various folklores and legends confirm that this name is relevant to Anau. However, in those times, people used the name ‘Anau’ as well. The 16th century historian Isgender Munshi mentioned the foothills oasis as Bagabat in his work ‘Tarikh-e Alam-ara-ye Abbasi’. Moreover, the historian Hasan Beg Rumlu wrote the name of Anau as Bagabat in his chronicle ‘Ahsan al-Tavarikh’. The city of Anau was mentioned in the work ‘Shajara-i Tarākima’ (‘Genealogy of the Turkmens’) by the famous Khan of Khiva and historian Abu al-Ghazi Bahadur (the 17th century).

The Turkmen language and literature are studied on a scientific basis in the year ‘Ocean of Wisdom of Magtymguly Pyragy’. Great attention is attached to the cultural heritage of our people and its promotion. In this context, international conferences and meetings are held in the country on a regular basis. This fact creates good opportunities for exchange of experience between scientists, writers, and historians. To date, the works and poetry by Magtymguly Pyragy are read by the world community and the scientists studying the East. That is why the great Turkmen poet and thinker deserved high esteem and respect in the world. Many generations have been studying the poet's works for three centuries. Thus, his poetry has special place in the world literature. His inspiring poems promote patriotism, humanism, and enthusiasm for science.

TURKMENISTAN’S YOUTH STEPS ON GLOBAL STAGE AT 13th UNESCO YOUTH FORUM

In the year «Happy Youth with Arkadag Serdar», representatives of Turkmenistan’s youth contributed to the work of the13th UNESCO Youth Forum, which was held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France on November 14-15, 2023. This was an important event for Turkmenistan’s youth–they joined the global event that let them share their ideas and make connections world wide. Their participation showed the world how engaged and important Turkmenistan's youth is in shaping a better world. The development of cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is one of the priority areas of the foreign policy strategy in the era of the Revival of the new epoch of the powerful state. For 30 years of cooperation, great progress has been made towards implementing the UNESCO mandate in our country, as well as increasing the cultural, educational and scientific potential.
