One of the sages said: “Music reveals all the heights of the human soul to a man”. Afer they are created, songs and music harmoniously highlight the perfect emotions of all humankind. The songs created in the homeland and based on the national identity charm all humankind. Turkmen music, dif e rent from melodies of other nations, has been the focus of attention of the scholars who study arts since ancient times and come down to our days through mentorship. The homeland is the holy place for a person. That is why music created by the Turkmen composers delicately expresses the national identity of our people and the devotion of our younger generations to sacred values. From the first days of the school of Turkmen composers until the present time, the majority of national works based on folk songs and music and sources of folklore has been absorbing a sense of patriotism. Folk music processed by the composers and the special use of their tunes contribute to enriching musical art and increasing the works created in the national style. In his book “Baghshis are the Harbingers of National Happiness”, the National Leader of the Turkmen people wrote: “Musical art, bequeathed to us by the great Turkmen classics, lives over millennia, enriches itself and always remains deep, substantial and modern. It teaches us, listeners, to love our homeland, does not allow indifference and makes our life interesting, full and bright. The great power and immortality of our art lie in it.” The glorification of the achievements of our country and our happy life in the peaceful land inspiringly sound in the songs and music. A large number of patriotic works and the variety of genres characterise the creative activity of Turkmen composers. These include many musical compositions created for the national musical inst ru ments and the symphony orchestra. When creating these works, the composers thoroughly learn the playing specifics, characteristics and unique turns of each musical inst ru ment. The Hero Arkadag says the creative activity of Turkmen composers during the years of independence is characterised by versatility and a wide variety of performance styles. In the new epoch, the creation of the State Anthem of independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan is one of the most important events in the life of our country. A large number of works that express deep love for the homeland and con fi dence in its happy future were dedicated to independence. The Turkmen composers widely use the Turkmen national musical inst ru ments in their works along with the European classical musical inst ru ments. The Turkmen people, who are fond of large-scale celebrations, have many holidays and festivals that attract the attention of foreign scientists and tourists. In this regard, an example is the words described in the book “Turkmen Music” published at the beginning of the last century by an expert in Central Asian folklore, a scholar Viktor Uspensky and an orientalist Viktor Belyaev: “It is impossible to imagine another country like Turkmenistan where music is used so much, wide spread and given the most attention. Music, being a common public value, does not lose its professional character, which ensures a high level of perfection”. The Turkmen composers created a number of works for the symphony orchestra glorifying our sacred homeland and won the prizes of international contests. These include the works created by People’s Artists and composers of Turkmenistan, such A. Kuliyev’s symphonic poem “My Sunny Land”, V. Muhadov’s symphonic poem “My Homeland”, N. Halmammedov’s symphonic etudes “Turkmenistan”, A. Agajykov’s cantata “Homeland” based on K. Gurbannepesov’s poem and R. Allayarov’s ode “Turkmenistan – the Homeland” based on A. Atabaev’s poem, and the works created by Honoured Artists of Turkmenistan, such as S. Tuyliyev’s ode “Turkmen building” based on Magtymguly’s poem for the reader, soloist, choir and symphony orchestra, B. Soltanov’s suite “My Homeland – Turkmenistan” and M. Annamyradov’s symphony “My Awakened Homeland”. In his book “Music of Peace, Music of Friendship and Brotherhood”, the Hero Arkadag wrote with perfect wisdom: “...The wonder of the homeland is the power that gives strength to the heart wherever you are. Unique works are created only from the magic of love for the homeland. Art, when expressed in a concrete sense, is love. The homeland is the place where love for nature and surroundings begins...” That is why all the works created in the homeland are close to the heart and impressing. The works created by the Turkmen composers in the spirit of patriotism have a special impact on education and consciousness of the younger generations. We wish great success to our skilled composers and baghshi musicians in their creative pursuits to bring our unique art to new heights!
