The visiting card of mountainous Magtymguly etrap in the Balkan velayat is the Sumbar and Chendir gorges, immersed in greenery, where various fruit trees grow, including the pomegranate. This tree holds the palm: in gardens, it is rightfully considered a symbol of the beauty and fertility of the generous Turkmen land.

The pomegranate is not only a fruit tree, but also a decorative one; it adds bright colours to the streets in the centre of Magtymguly etrap and the villages where masters of their craft live and work. A gardener-tenant from the Sumbar farmers’ association Bibihajar Hojageldiyeva has been growing fruit trees for several years. The experienced gardener received the Medals “Watana bolan söýgüsi üçin” and “Gaýrat” for her modest work, which inspires her to work with renewed energy.
