Adequate water supply and sanitation play a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including those related to healthy lifestyles. Access to water, sanitation and hygiene is a human right. Achieving sustainable access to clean water and sanitation requires interaction at all levels, from the local implementation of advanced water efficient technologies at the national level and the development of adequate infrastructure, to international actions. Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all is Goal 6 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation, is to ensure universal access to drinking water for all by 2030; to improve water quality and water use efficiency; and to provide for integrated water resources management and to protect and restore water-related ecosystems. Enhancing the efficiency of water use can also improve food and energy management and contribute to worthy work and economic growth. In the context of Goal 6, it is very important to raise awareness of water use issues.
