Messenger of happiness — Nowruz!

Each of us has a special attitude to the ancient holiday of Nowruz, which lives in the memory of many peoples. However, for each of us this is the most favourite and joyous holiday since childhood. Its origin goes back to the pre-written period of human history and is related to people’s perception of the world. In the mythology of many peoples inhabiting our planet, the globe rests on the horns of a huge bull. For a year this mythical god becomes tired and throws the Earth from one horn to another, after which, according to legend, Nowruz, new year, comes.

“Paradise” Horses – Our Wealth

Like exquisite Turkmen carpets, Turkmen alabay, ak bugday wheat, musical instrument dutar and gold and silver jewellery, Ahalteke horses have been the pride of our ancient and wise people and part of their national wealth. It was in the fertile land of the Turkmen that many centuries ago, the cult of the purebred Ahalteke horse as a faithful and dependable companion along the centuries-old path of historical development emerged, and today it has become a vivid symbol of the economic strength of the Turkmen state, unity, cohesion and prosperity of the people. Modern science recognises that Ahalteke horses rank among the most ancient breeds among the known 250 horse ones. Nearly every encyclopaedia says the Ahalteke breed is that of riding horses developed by folk selection in the territory of modern Turkmenistan, presumably about 2500–3500 years ago that has greatly influenced many other well-known horse breeds.

My beloved capital

From ancient times, the heart of any state has been its capital city. This year, the main city of our country – Ashgabat – turns 140 years old. Today it is a large administrative, political, industrial, scientific and cultural centre of Turkmenistan. Here, important issues of a state importance, related to the political, economic, cultural and social life of the country are solved. The beautiful avenues, highways that meet world standards, Ashgabat city, where the buildings of ministries and departments are concentrated, have become a vivid eviidence of the rapid development of the modern age, enlightening the way to a bright future. But let’s look back to 140 years ago, to the distant year 1881. At that time, it was the village of Askhabat with 800 yurts, located near a mountain river under the same name, whose crystal clear waters originated at the top of the Kopetdag Mountains. Askhabat emerged as a fortress on the western outskirts of the settlement Askhabat along the Gaudan Road leading to Persia. The fortress stood on a hill 12 metres high, on which a redoubt citadel with a fortress settlement, surrounded by walls and a ditch, were built below.

Novruz bayram —holiday of renewal and benevolence

Novruz is annually celebrated in our country on March 21-22, the day of the vernal equinox, and heralds the coming of the New Year. Novruz is one of the oldest holidays that have lived for many centuries in the souls and memory of many nations, including Turkmen people. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has made a working trip around the capital. During the trip, the head of the state has inspected the situation in the southern part of Turkmen capital where construction of business and social facilities is carried out at this time. In the morning, the head of the state has come to the construction site of mud stream diversion channels and water collection facilities.

Agahan Durdyyev, the Pioneer of the new Turkmen Literature

In his book «The time to look back» remembering the course of life and the creative work of Agahan Durdyyev, a well-known Turkmen writer, one of the pioneers of the new Turkmen prose Alexander Ivanovich Aborskiy wrote: «For a long time there is not Agahan among us. Schoolchildren, young people read his books, philologists study his manuscripts, from time to time in editorial office or in the Union of Writers they remember this quiet and at the same time significant, bright man. One day, as if by chance, it was revealed that in comparison with his contemporaries of the same age, Agahan mastered well pure, rich Turkmen language. It is of course very important and these features for the young Turkmen prose are of no small importance. In 1920-s works of this writer really opened new pages of the new Turkmen literature.

Turkmen leader visits equestrian complex and writes a poem

In the morning, head of the state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has visited Ahalteke Equestrian Complex of the President of Turkmenistan. Turkmen leader went to see his horses and after has turned his hand to writing. The news about delivery of the first foal from Akhan, which the head of the state was coaching personally, has been informed to the President of Turkmenistan while his was visiting the complex. The head of the state has accept this news with big enthusiasm. 

Turkmen leader starts spring tree planting campaign

The spring tree planting campaign has been started in Turkmenistan with participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Nationwide action of tree planting was timed to National Spring Holiday – International Nowruz Day. The Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan approves the programme of celebrations and festive events.

History, Present Day and Prospects of the Development of the Art of Architecture

An international forum that brought together specialists in the field of architecture from the CIS member states was held in the hall of the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat. Among them were representatives of specialised higher educational establishments – rectors, teachers and students of the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan and the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction.
