New qualification criteria for swimmers

The International Swimming Federation has released the qualification criteria and the qualifying events schedule for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The qualification criteria are slightly different from those of the previous Games.

A gift from heaven

The Turkmen people have long cherished their horses, saying, ‘I will not call you a horse, I will call you a brother’. This kindness means that the attitude of the Turkmen people towards the horses is rooted in the patriotic feelings. The love and respect of the Turkmen people for horses is based on ancient national principles. These principles are rooted in divine love. Our ancestors used to say, ‘a horse is an aim’, ‘when you wake up in the morning, see your father first, and then see your horse’, ‘where there is a horse, there will be a holiday’, as well as ‘a girl-like horse’, ‘a bride-like horse’. These descriptive phrases demonstrate the attitude of our ancestors.

Absent is a world-famous horse

Absent is a horse that has left an indelible mark in the history of the Olympic Games. This beautiful black horse was born in 1952 in Taraz (former Jambyl), Kazakhstan. The genealogy of the horse originates from the unique horses that have been bred for millennia on the Turkmen soil. Born from the horses Arab and Bakkara, Absent was descended from the famous horse Boynav (born in 1885). In 1955–1968, Absent left a significant mark in equestrian sports. At the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy in Moscow in 1958, Absent was awarded a Level I Certificate for beauty among the Ahalteke horses. Absent took second place in the 1958 European Show Jumping Championships in Aachen, Germany. A year later, the horse won a gold medal at the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR and the title of champion of the USSR.

This truth is reflected in the fact that the horse is depicted in the center of the State Emblem of Turkmenistan. The history of our ‘heavenly’ horses has a worthy place in the national literature and in the works of other peoples. Two-year-old Korean boy Lee Sambo started training in Combat Sambo

The basis for health and friendship

The concern of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the healthy, spiritual development of the younger generations, and for the modern education and upbringing in our country has a great importance in the year, held under the motto ‘the Era of the People with Arkadag’. The UN General Assembly adopted the Resolution ‘Integration of mainstream bicycling into public transportation systems for sustainable development’, co-authored by 62 countries, at the 61st plenary meeting of its 76th Session at the initiative of Turkmenistan on March 15 this year. The adoption of the Resolution demonstrated that the wide range of opportunities created in our country for the physical and spiritual development of our people, especially children and youth, bears fruits. The UN General Assembly has declared June 3 as the World Bicycle Day by adopting a Resolution, which was initiated by Turkmenistan, during the 82 plenary meeting of its 72 Session on April 12, 2018. That fact evidenced the complete international support to the initiatives of our country aimed at strengthening of peace, friendship and fruitful cooperation through sport.

The Turkmen students are happy to witness many events written in the letters of gold on the history of our country in the revival of the new epoch of the powerful state. In the speech at the inauguration ceremony held at the Ruhyet Palace in the capital on March 19, the popularly elected President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, ‘In the sphere of education, digital technologies will be widely used, distance learning and data exchange will be carried out. These measures will raise the level of the educational process at the domestic institutions of higher education to one of the highest in the world’. These historical words are directly attributed to students and assign great responsibility to them. As the scholars say, the world of science and education is the enlightening power of the future goals, existence and life of every human being.

Bicycling for all

The Resolution “Integration of mainstream bicycling into public transportation systems for sustainable development” was adopted unanimously at the 61st plenary meeting of the 76th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations on March 15. The document co-sponsored by 62 states was adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan. The Resolution calls on UN Member States and all relevant stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector and academia, to maximize the potential of the bicycle and other active mobility modes to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and objectives of the 2030 Agenda. It has become increasingly popular all over the world to use the bicycle for transportation. Today, more than ever, people are saluting the many benefits of using a bicycle for transportation.

Turkmenistan is a sports country

In the years of independence, Turkmenistan has established the physical culture and sports movements and has contributed to international cooperation in this sphere. To implement this policy, our country built and put into operation multifunctional stadiums, physical education and health complexes, hippodromes, sports schools, and similar facilities in all regions. The methods of training athletes and specialists have been improved in our country. Turkmenistan has gathered wide experience of holding sports events, and the Turkmen athletes successfully perform at international events. Since January 1, 2012, Turkmenistan Sport TV channel has been covering the achievements in physical culture and sport under the motto ‘Turkmenistan is a Country of Health and Inspiration’ to promote the principles of a healthy lifestyle. Despite the climatic conditions, Turkmenistan has created excellent opportunities for winter sports. The Winter Sports Complex has been built in Ashgabat, and the Multifunctional Sports Complex in the Avaza National Tourist Zone has large ice rinks. The national hockey championship has been held in our country for several years; and figure skating and short-track speed skating are being actively developed.
