On the Eve of International Hockey Battles

A few days separate us from a major sporting event – an international hockey tournament among club teams, which will be held in our capital from April 15 to 20. The competition will open up new dimensions for the development of this winter sport in our country and will also serve as the best propaganda in terms of attracting Turkmen youth to sports activities. From our country, the undisputed leaders, nine-time champions of Turkmenistan (absolute), hockey players of the Galkan Club of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will compete for medals. In the entire history of their performances on the national sports arena, they lost only in one match, dominating all the others on the ice rinks of Ashgabat. We would also like to add that most of the team of Galkan makes up the main backbone of the Turkmenistan men’s hockey team.

Kabaddi joins military sports

«Türkmenistan Sport», № 1 (21), 2024 The capital of Iran, Tehran hosted the 3rd international seminar on kabaddi (an ancient Indian team game) that brought together referees from Japan, China, the Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and Turkmenistan, among others. Three referees from the National Hanmudo Federation that includes this sport, which is becoming increasingly popular, honed their professional skills. This is vividly evidenced by the inclusion of kabaddi in the programme of continental and world tournaments. For example, this Indian game, which is similar to the Turkmen national game Aýterek-Günterek, has been represented at the Asian Summer Games for several decades. However, the main news of the year is the inclusion of kabaddi in the sporting events which are held under the auspices of the International Military Sports Council (CISM). CISM was founded in the late 1940s and today unites the armed forces from 140 countries. The state youth policy implemented by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov is based on significant initiatives and goals, such as educating the younger generations in the spirit of patriotism and humanity, and promoting their passion for science and education in our happy epoch. Thus, excellent conditions are created for young people to receive modern education, develop their talents, improve and become persons with a broad worldview. Thanks to the strategic initiatives launched by our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and implemented by the President of Turkmenistan, our country has enhanced its international sports prestige. Our Motherland is widely recognized as a venue for large international sports events. Great work is underway to create an advanced sports system in the country, develop the Olympic movement, and strengthen international cooperation in this field. In this context, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the Decree on holding an International Ice Hockey Tournament in the Turkmen capital at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on March 1. This large event will be held at the Winter Sports Complex on April 15–20, 2024. It will strengthen friendship and brotherhood between peoples, promote the physical culture and sports, and attract the younger generations to sports.

Arkadag Football Club completed preparation for the new season of the Championship of Turkmenistan. The team held the training sessions in Turkey and the UAE. In the last match of the training sessions in Abu Dhabi, the team of Vladimir Bayramov played Regional Sports, the football club of Dubai, and won 4:2.

The champion wins

Arkadag Football Club won a friendly match during the training sessions held in the UAE. The players of Vladimir Bayramov defeated FC Abdysh-Ata Kant, the champion and the holder of Supercup of Kyrgyzstan, with a score of 2:1. It should be noted that the players of Arkadag Football Club form the national football team of Turkmenistan. The club was founded in April, 2023. In the first season, the team became the national champion and won the Cup of Turkmenistan.During the second training sessions held in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, Arkadag Football Club defeated the Russian Premier League team FC Pari NN (2:1) and drew the match against the Russian champion FC Zenit Saint Petersburg (1:1).

Kabaddi in the Complex of Military Games

These days in the capital of Iran, Tehran, the third international seminar of referees on kabaddi (an ancient Indian team game) with participation of representatives of many countries (Japan, China, the Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and others), including Turkmenistan, concluded its work. Three masters of the Hanmudo National Martial Arts Federation that also includes this sport, which is gaining more and more popularity year after year, developed their referee skills. A vivid indication of this is the inclusion of kabaddi in the programme of various continental and world-level competitions. For example, this Indian game, similar to the Turkmen national game “Aýterek-Günterek”, has been represented in the complex of the classic Asian Summer Games for several decades. However, perhaps the main news of this year was the inclusion of kabaddi in the competitions held under the auspices of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).

Sambo wrestlers stand on podium in team event

The Turkmenistan team successfully performed at the international tournament for the prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus, which was held as part of sambo and combat sambo training sessions in Minsk from January 24 to February 13, 2024. The Turkmenistan team won 15 medals (4 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze) and took 3rd place in the team event of the tournament, which took place on February 7-10.

Two World Championships are Ahead

The first month of spring of the current year for Turkmen hockey players will be marked by two significant events – the participation of national teams in the world championships of the third division among juniors under 18 (U-18) and among adults. Therefore, the Turkmenistan Ice Hockey Championship taking place these days in Ashgabat has become an important stage in preparation for the upcoming competitions. The national tournament is being held in Ashgabat for the ninth time. In eight of them, the undisputed leader was the capital’s club Galkan of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which has won the main trophy of the competition eight times, that is, the club is the absolute champion of the country. The athletes trained by Bayram Allayarov are in the lead this time too, occupying first place in the standings with twelve points.
