How to Prevent Seasonal Diseases

The air temperature drops, the days become shorter, sleep and eating patterns change – the body goes into acclimatisation mode and becomes more vulnerable. Autumn is the time when the personal health problems, physical and mental, become more acute. According to statistics, the largest number of exacerbations of chronic diseases occur during this period. Even healthy people experience stress during the transition period, not to mention those with health problems. Climate has a direct and indirect effect on humans. The direct influence is very diverse and is due to the direct effect of climatic factors on the human body, particularly on the conditions of heat exchange with the environment: on the blood supply to the skin, the respiratory and cardiovascular system and sweating. Many people find it very difficult to adjust to autumn weather due to the sudden change in temperature, dampness and coolness.

The Future is Sustainable Cities

In the 21st century, the world is becoming increasingly urbanised. Since 2007, 3.5 billion people live in cities, and this figure is projected to reach 5 billion by 2030. This means that up to 60 per cent of the world’s population will live in cities. And by 2050, more than two-thirds of the world’s population will live in cities. Being centres of economic growth, providing about 60% of global GDP, cities already account for about 70% of global carbon emissions and more than 60% of resource use. That is why Sustainable Development Goal 11 – “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” – is so important and relevant.
