Clean and Safe Water is Essential for Life

Adequate water supply and sanitation play a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including those related to healthy lifestyles. Access to water, sanitation and hygiene is a human right. Achieving sustainable access to clean water and sanitation requires interaction at all levels, from the local implementation of advanced water efficient technologies at the national level and the development of adequate infrastructure, to international actions. Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all is Goal 6 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation, is to ensure universal access to drinking water for all by 2030; to improve water quality and water use efficiency; and to provide for integrated water resources management and to protect and restore water-related ecosystems. Enhancing the efficiency of water use can also improve food and energy management and contribute to worthy work and economic growth. In the context of Goal 6, it is very important to raise awareness of water use issues.

A Centennial Pear Tree in Our Garden

Gardeners of the Köne Kesir village in Nohur, Magtymguly etrap, Balkan velayat, cultivate large fruit pear trees that bears fruit well in the favourable climate of the dry subtropical regions of Turkmenistan. The owner of the oldest pear tree, a village resident, a geography teacher at school 18, local historian-enthusiast Baymuhamed Ashirov says: “The first trees of this unusual pear variety of impressive size were planted in the southern section of the Turkmen-Iranian border in 1912, on the banks of the Sumbar River near the frontier post. A few years later, the trees became orphaned. At that time, the Zähmet horticultural farm was established in Köne Kesir village, where my grandfather Kurbansahat Hudayberdiyev – a born gardener who worked with diligence and love and received high yields of crops, lived for many years. Whatever he took on, he succeeded. In those years, my grandfather ‘fired up’ with the idea of getting one of the trees growing near the frontier post for our spacious garden near the house in a quiet rural street – the fruit tree was obviously not a simple one – it produced surprisingly large pears without any care.

Important Political and Legal Mechanism of the Democratisation and Unity of Society

According to the Constitution, the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan is the highest representative body of Turkmenistan. The Constitutional Law “On the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan” of January 21, 2023 determines the procedure for its establishment and powers. The legal status of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan proceeds from the fundamental constitutional norms on people’s sovereignty and on the exercise by the people of their power directly or through representative bodies. Since ancient times, the Turkmen people have had a democratic tradition of making decisions vital for the people through discussion at the Gengesh. In the Turkmen society, councils and people’s meetings served as important democratic mechanisms for planning and coordinating socioeconomic processes, preserving the values of the national heritage and passing them on from one generation to another. Throughout the centuries-old history of the Turkmen people, people’s councils have been one of the most democratic institutions, harmonising the system of relations between generations.

Following the Principle of Equal Rights and Opportunities

Gender equality is ensured by Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. According to the UN, “Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.” Goal 5 can positively influence the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals in the country that has a gender-oriented policy. Ensuring gender equality and empowering all women and girls is a cross-cutting aspect of the state policy of Turkmenistan. The knowledge economy and the fourth industrial revolution are the constants that will ensure sustainable development in the 21st century. In this regard, the quality and potential of human capital is of paramount importance. Human capital – labour and knowledge resources – is the major factor and engine of economic development. Accordingly, the main task of the state is to reveal and efficiently use human resources. Women and girls make up half of the world’s population. Therefore, they are half of the human potential to achieve sustainable development.

Factors of a Stable Economy

The investment strategy of the esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, aimed at the digitalisation and innovative growth of the Turkmen economy, leads to more advanced complex transformations that ensure the modernisation, diversification and rapid growth of the domestic economy. Another distinctive feature of the investment policy, pursued in Turkmenistan, is that priority is given to projects aimed at constructing new enterprises based on high technologies and providing deep processing of local raw materials. The progressive development of economic wellbeing is known to directly depend on the carefully balanced investment strategy of the state. This is primarily due to the fact that investments lead to GDP growth. The positive dynamics of the volume of investments leads to the strengthening of Turkmenistan as a reliable partner on the international arena. With the help of financial investments, the competitiveness of the economy is growing, and the ratio of exports and imports is changing, which leads to an increase in the export component of the state’s trade balance. With the help of investments, scientific and technological progress is accelerated and revenues to the State budget significantly rise, which makes it possible to allocate funds for the further development of the country.

The Miracle of the Turkmen Land

Our country has a great potential to become one of the leading tourist centres and to open the rich historical, cultural and natural heritage of the Turkmen people to the whole world. There are all prerequisites for the more active development of various types of tourism, cultural, educational, environmental, business, health, medical and extreme, and other areas of the tourism industry. In Turkmenistan, a person is proclaimed the highest value of the society. To improve the health of citizens, our state constantly takes care of improving the conditions for recreation. New sanatoriua and health centres are being built and put into operation in the country. Large-scale work is underway to protect the environment. Vast massifs of villages and cities in a historically short period of time have turned into continuous forest areas and flowering gardens. With every passing day, the nature of the beloved Motherland becomes more and more beautiful. This trend is the main condition for achieving a high level of environmental wellbeing in the country.

An integral part of national culture

«7/24 tm» № 33 (168) 14.08.2023 The Mähir siňen nepislik conference in a solemn atmosphere took place at the Centre of Public Organisations in Ashgabat, marking the donation of the works of Turkmen applied and decorative arts – amulets-alaja, woven by the mother of the Hero-Arkadag, a grandmother of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Ogulabat eje, to the State Museum of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan.

Priority is the Environmental Wellbeing of the Country

The taxi noiselessly covered kilometres of roads, and the cool microclimate in the cabin was like a continuation of the test drive of the general technical characteristics of the cars. This is an unusual transport, it is refuelled not with gasoline, but with electricity and is stuffed with modern electronics. A car tablet allows you to control the main equipment and all functions, including the climate system. There is also a Bluetooth module for connecting a mobile phone. “Ten comfortable JAC J7 electric vehicles and the same number of YUTONG electric buses of the Chinese automobile industry are a gift to the city of state importance from respected President Serdar Berdimuhamedov,” Suleyman Atageldiyev, head of the Arkadag city bus station and auto complex department of the Türkmenawtoulaglary Agency, says. “Urban transport easily differs from its ‘brothers in the craft’, powered by internal combustion engines – excellent performance, modern look and comfort for passengers and drivers. An important environmental difference of electric vehicles is the virtual absence of an exhaust system, without which an internal combustion engine cannot exist. There is no roar of the engine coming from the muffler – traditional fossil fuel cars have been replaced by electric vehicles here.”

Social Vector of the State Policy

Turkmenistan, committed to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, consistently brings to life the main principles of its policy, formulated as “The state is for the people!” and “The state is a state only together with the people!” In other words, an individual with his or her potential, values and needs is at the heart of the development of all spheres of life of the state and society. Consistent measures are being taken for the benefit of the people in the country to strengthen social stability and to improve the wellbeing of the people, to maintain economic stability and to create a better future for the younger generation. On the basis of the Voluntary National Review of Turkmenistan on the Sustainable Development Goals, the NT editorial staff has prepared a series of materials on the progress of the implementation of the main principles of the state policy in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals.

City of Mirror Cleanness

Deep night or already early morning, but the city still sleeps. Lonely lanterns illuminate the silent streets, and rare cars break the silence, driving along the wide avenues. And only drivers of washing machines work during these hours. Cleanliness on the capital’s streets and highways is provided by special transport of the municipal utilities of the city. Driving past after a night shift, I became interested in the essence of their work. It is clear that the main thing for them is the cleanliness of city highways: there was not a speck on the wet and wide lane creeping behind the car – the machinery fulfilled its purpose so conscientiously. There was a smell of freshness and the cleanliness of the track, and the capital, flooded with electric light, in the predawn haze seemed like a mirage hovering above the earth.

«Gara altyn» for Those Fond of the Sea

The issues related to the health and recreation of the people of Turkmenistan are the focus of attention of our esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Particular attention is paid to children. During the school holidays, the best children’s recreation centres are at the disposal of the young citizens of Turkmenistan. The state is taking all necessary measures so that children with grow up physically healthy and become full-fledged members of our society.

“A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life”

The necktie, a timeless and versatile accessory, has been a staple of men's fashion for centuries. This slender strip of fabric, worn around the neck and neatly knotted, adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to formal and semiformal attire. Let's explore the fascinating history and evolution of the necktie. Origins and Early History:

Precious statement of the city of the future

On June 29, 2023, the opening ceremony of the first stage of the famous throughout the world, «smart» and «green» Arkadag city, also known as «smart-city», was written in golden letters in the history of our beloved Motherland. At the joint meeting of the Government and the State Security Council of Turkmenistan, the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov presented the book «Arkadag City — a City of the Future» about this wonderful city, which has no equal in the region and was built on the basis of the rules of the «smart» city concept for the first time in the experience of Turkmenistan. He also told us the good news about the publication of the new book of our Hero Arkadag called «The Continuation of the Meaning of My Life». In this deeply thought-provoking book, our National Leader states: «...a person who is a precious treasure of the society can become better and be improved through a book. Another clear wisdom of the book is that every book we read takes us one step higher». We will not deviate from the truth if we say that these wonderful books, which are gifted with wise lines and deep meaning, will further improve the fate of the entire Turkmen people. This book describes 336 modern and «smart» buildings that were built and put into use in the first phase of the city in details. The content of the book is enriched by the presence of photographs revealing th

Equality of rights of women

National Leader of the Turkmen peopleGurbanguly Berdimuhamedov: — Gender equality is the basic part of the global development strategy. We put forward the great aim in this trend. The goal is to achieve full gender equality for all women and to expand their rights and opportunities. It is our common duty and collective responsibility to fulfill this mission.

Transport: Sustainability, Safety and Legal Regulation

The bright illustration of the global importance of transport is the adoption of the Resolution “World Sustainable Transport Day” at the initiative of Turkmenistan at the 70th plenary meeting of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. The Resolution was co-sponsored by 67 countries. In its resolution, the UN General Assembly invited all UN Member States, international and regional organisations and civil society to commemorate World Sustainable Transport Day by conducting awareness-raising activities and events aimed at enlarging the public knowledge of sustainable transport, in particular by enhancing intermodal transport connectivity, promoting environmentally friendly transportation and developing socially inclusive transport infrastructure.

Food Abundance – the Groundwork for Economic Growth

The key indicators of successful socioeconomic reforms and a balanced state policy include a wide choice of and access to competitive high-quality goods in the consumer market. Further steps to achieve food abundance are set forth in the Programme “Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State: The National Programme of the Socioeconomic Development of Turkmenistan for 2022–2052” and the Socioeconomic Development Programme of the President of Turkmenistan for 2022–2028. A key component in improving the quality of life of the people of Turkmenistan is the supply of high-quality eco-friendly food commodities. This is primarily because the quality of food determines the health of the nation, has an impact on the demographic situation and is a basic element of national security. The country is taking large-scale, consistent measures to comprehensively support domestic producers.
