On the eve of the prestigious tournament

The national sambo team of Turkmenistan has recently held the training sessions at the World Sambo Academy in Kstovo, the Russian Federation. The team included 24 athletes. The event took place on March 10–24. After the training sessions, the national sambo team of Turkmenistan will compete in the Sambo Founders Cup to be held in Moscow. The prestigious tournament will become an important part of preparation for the 2025 World Sambo Championships to be held in the Turkmen capital.

European Sambo Referees Seminar to be held in Israel

The European SAMBO Referees Seminar will be held in Israel on the eve of the start of the European SAMBO Championships and the European Cadets, Youth and Junior SAMBO Championships, which will be held in Haifa in April. Referees who pass successfully the exam will be awarded with certificates of the Referee of the International category «B» level for a period of two years.

Brothers have no equals

The Atabaev brothers, Maksat, Saparmyrat and Yusup, made up the top three in the Chess League of Turkmenistan. There was the heat of competition between three brothers in the League for 14 strongest chess players. Thus, Maksat Atabaev, a 29-year-old international grandmaster, who scored 2472 points in the FIDE rating, became the national champion. Although he was defeated by Shahruh Turaev in the first round, the champion won the title with 10.5 out of 13 possible points. Saparmyrat Atabaev, a 24-year-old international master (2448 points in the FIDE rating) scored 10 points at the tournament. Yusup Atabaev received the title of an international grandmaster a month ago and lost half a point to the winner. Eventually, additional coefficient demonstrated that Saparmyrat took the second place.

Jamaican sambists held demonstration performance for IOC President Thomas Bach

At the exhibition, organized for the visit of the high guest by the Jamaican Olympic Association, sambists held demonstration performances and told the IOC head about the development of local SAMBO and their achievements.

A festive event

The closing ceremony of the 2022-2023 ice hockey season was held with great enthusiasm. As is known, the Ice Hockey Championship of Turkmenistan concluded on February 28. The closing ceremony took place at the Galkan Winter Sports Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan. The State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan, the Ice Hockey Federation of Turkmenistan and the Ashgabat Council of Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan organized the event.

Test of strength and capabilities The open karate-do championships-2023 for the Cup of the Ahal Velayat fonished at the Olimp secondary sports school in the capital. More than 650 karatekas from 39 sports clubs of the country took part in the competitions. The tournament was organised by the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Education and Sports and the Karate-Do Federation.

A futsal tournament was held for the students of the institutions of higher education of the country within the frameworks of the XII Universiade ‘Turkmenistan – the Home of Health and Inspiration’. Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas hosted the decisive matches of the tournament. The team of this institution of higher education won the third place.

Strengthening the global cooperation

The opening of the UNESCO Chair ‘Cultural Heritage: from the past to the future’, established thanks to the cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at Magtymguly Turkmen State University, was a historic event. As is known, the creation of UNESCO Chairs in the institutions of higher education of the country will give the opportunity to promote the achievements of the Turkmen science and the national education system to the world. Similar chairs function in the world's most famous universities. It is gratifying that the institutions of higher education of Turkmenistan join this noble work, which was launched on the initiative of our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and successfully implemented by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The establishment of the Chair was conducted by the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO.

A seminar was held

Representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan, public organizations of the country, coaches and specialists of the sports schools under the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan took part in a seminar, which concluded on February 24. The main goal of the seminar was to promote the principles of gender equality, a healthy lifestyle, emotional freedom, reproductive health and legal awareness of volunteers. The event included a number of impactful speeches.

On the eve of the international events

The Turkmen 3x3 basketball team has left for Druskininkai, the Republic of Lithuania. The basketball players from Turkmenistan will hold the training sessions in the city on February 23 – March 8. The Turkmen delegation in Lithuania consists of 19 people, including in 16 athletes. The training sessions will ensure intensive preparation of the Turkmen basketball players for the large tournaments.

The U14, 16 and 18 Chess Championships of Turkmenistan were organized on February 19–24. Over 100 chess players from all regions of the country took part in the 9-round Swiss-system tournament. There were expected results in the U18 Championships. The main contenders Amanmuhammet Hommadov (Ashgabat) and Lala Shohradova (Lebap Velayat) defeated their principal opponents – Vepaly Halynyyazov (Lebap Velayat) and Meryem Agajanova (Ashgabat) and won the titles.

Tashkent hosted the Uzbekistan Sambo Championship

More than 550 participants from different regions of the republic took part in the competitions held in the capital’s sports complex «Zhar». During the tournament, participants competed for medals in 21 weight categories – 7 each in men’s, women’s and Combat SAMBO.

The meeting of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan and public representatives was rich in historic decisions. At this socio-political event, the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan was established; our Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was elected as the Chairman of this high representative body of the people's power and was recognized as the national leader of the Turkmen people. Those decisions originate from the will of our happy people. The adoption of those historic decisions provoked the pride of the Turkmen people for our national leader, who implemented great work on ensuring our happy life, on strengthening the stability in our country, and on promoting our national values to the world.
