“Smart” Arkadag City – a City of New Opportunities

Thanks to the large-scale undertakings of the Hero-Arkadag, successfully implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, our country is taking comprehensive measures to boost digital transformation in key sectors of the national economy. Progressive economic reforms are reflected in the Programme “Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State: The National Socioeconomic Development Programme of Turkmenistan in 2022–2052” and the Programme of the President of Turkmenistan of Socioeconomic Development in 2022–2028. The current stage of socioeconomic reforms in Turkmenistan is characterised by the implementation of large-scale initiatives aimed at economic modernisation and transition to a new industrial path, the main goal of which is to build a modern structure based on innovation and focusing on sustainable development. The Conception of the Development of Digital Economy in Turkmenistan in 2019–2025 and the State Programme of the Development of Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2021–2025 define digital transformation as a priority for sustainable development and the groundwork for the innovative development of the country.

30 Years of Cooperation

In the period of the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State under the leadership of the respected President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, special attention is paid to the wide study, popularisation and preservation of the national cultural and spiritual heritage of the Turkmen people. This is evidenced by the expanding fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO. It is a specialised body of the United Nations for education, science and culture. Turkmenistan became a full member of UNESCO in August 1993, after ratifying the relevant document. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s membership in UNESCO. Over the past years, a reliable international legal framework for cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO has been formed. In 1994, our country joined the UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. A significant practical step in the implementation of the obligations assumed was the adoption of the Laws of Turkmenistan “On the Protection of Objects of National Historical and Cultural Heritage”, “On the Protection of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage”, “On the Protection, Export and Import of Movable Values of the National Historical and Cultural Heritage”, “On the Folk Art of Turkmenistan” and others.

Hajj of Hero-Arkadag - a symbol of continuity of primordial traditions

Today ­ National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty, honourable elder Hajy Arkadag, having made a hajj, took part in the gurbanlyk-sadaka, which was given on this sacred land. According to the program of his stay, Hajy Arkadag and members of the Turkmen delegation familiarised themselves with the beauty and magnificence of the Mecca and features of its architectural constructions.

In support of the earth water resources An online presentation of the UN World Water Development Report for 2023 was broadcast for our region by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the assistance of the Central Asian Regional Water Network (Сar@wan) that seeks to unite stakeholders, to promote the principles of integrated water management and to create a scientific and information platform. The presentation was linked with the achievements of the SDG 6 indicators. Exchanging views, the representatives of the regional water community of Central Asia expressed support for the global theses put forward: water is at the core of sustainable development and adaptation to climate change, and conservation and sustainable water use are the basis for a prosperous future for current and future generations. Until 2012, the Report was issued every three years, then, based on the global survey results, the UN-Water mechanism participants decided to change the reporting frequency to an annual one. Specialists, scientists, builders and hydraulic engineers, environmentalists and climatologists study the report findings on a global scale and in their regions.

In Mountain Gorge

With the onset of the hot summer – the most wonderful season of school holidays – the children’s recreation centres in the Balkan velayat, including Dürdäne, located in a picturesque mountain gorge near the administrative centre of Kizylarvat etrap, resumed their work. It was built and put into operation at the initiative of the Hero-Arkadag in 2016 and is designed for 300 visitors. This is a complex of a children’s kingdom, including a computer class, a cinema, a library with a reading room, a swimming pool and sports grounds designed for children to recreate and do sports.

The solemn award ceremony of the winners of the annual youth competition of scientific projects took place at the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology. The prestigious state competition, which is held on the eve of Science Day observed in our country on June 12, was organised by the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Central Council of Magtymguly Youth Organisation.

Water is of Paramount Importance The 84th meeting of the Interstate Coordinating Water Commission (ICWC) of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was devoted to approving the water withdrawal limits for the five countries of the Central Asian region and forecasting the operation mode of reservoir cascades for the growing season of 2023 in the Amudarya and Syrdarya basins. The meeting took place in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, which chairs the Fund, which, in turn, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with the participation of representatives of all member countries of the Fund, including Turkmenistan. Our country was represented by employees of the State Committee for Water Management. During the meeting, devoted to the results of the use of limits and modes of operation of reservoirs for the non-growing period of 2022–2023 for the river basins, representatives of the Amudarya and Syrdarya Basin Water Associations presented a message.
